I propose we launch a new website under the ratatui-org’s umbrella: Are We TUI Yet?
The idea (which originally belongs to @pythops) is to list the progress of converting the most widely used GUI apps into TUI apps. Additionally, I would like to include:
A central resource for TUI development (e.g. links to tutorials & guides)
A showcase of libraries and tools for tracking the progress of the TUI ecosystem.
This will encourage collaboration and feedback, and clearly show our vision of what we aim to achieve with Ratatui.
I would suggest to go with .rs yes, cause even if there is a TUI alternative to a GUI app, it’s always nice to have alternatives, specially the ones built with Rust
.rs domains are kind of annoying to deal with. Very few registrars handle them, the functionality of the control panel is often a bit lacking compared to the bigger registrars. That’s not a blocker, just highlighting a pain point.
We should do this. I’m 50/50 on Rust vs everything. I think there’s lots to be inspired from other frameworks / languages, but they’re likely going to be second class citizens unless you engage experts in those areas. If we’re doing that for other ecosystems, it may dillute the goals of any Rust TUI focus.
There’s the GUI->TUI ideas, but also a what’s available in the Ratatui space ideas (similar to the showcase section on the website, which shows screenshots of various widgets and apps, this would definitely be a good space to expand on that. Grouping various apps into categories, listing out various GUI widgets that have various versions of them, etc. One part of the AreWeXYet sites that really interest me are the catalog of things (and it’s what I was going for with the showcase part of the website).
